由于思念故乡，但又不想持续卷入原生家庭的负债漩涡，2026年的农历新年，我在与故乡接壤的六个县待了二十多天，它们位于四省交界的武陵山地区，分别是彭水苗族土家族自治县（重庆），沿河土家族自治县（贵州），秀山土家族苗族自治县（重庆），湘西土家族苗族自治州龙山县（湖南），恩施土家族苗族自治州来凤县、咸丰县（湖北）。期间，我邀请本地人问我一个问题：你来做么子？聊天结束后，我向对方支付12元的酬劳，它是2025年中国的平均时薪。
* 在询问的203位本地人中，有14位接受了我的邀请和拍摄，有1位债务当事人与我倾心交谈但不便出镜，在此均深表感激和祝福。
Homesick but determined to stay out of my family's debt spiral, I spent over twenty days during the 2026 Lunar New Year in six counties bordering my hometown.These places lie deep in the Wuling Mountains, where four provinces meet, and are all ethnic minority autonomous counties: Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County (Chongqing), Yanhe Tujia Autonomous County (Guizhou), Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County (Chongqing), Longshan County of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (Hunan), and Laifeng and Xianfeng Counties of Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (Hubei).During the trip, I invited local people to ask me one question: “What are you here for?” At the end of each conversation, I paid them 12 RMB—the average hourly wage in China in 2025.
* Of the 203 local people I approached, 14 accepted my invitation and agreed to be filmed. One person involved in debt spoke with me sincerely but preferred not to appear on camera. I extend my heartfelt thanks and best wishes to all of them.
